Late, late Jazz night in London... Yeahhh baby!
A month ago when I went to visit London, I had the great opportunity of enjoying some jazz at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho. One of the most visited, cosmopolitan and tolerant districts of London. Soho that is the famous gay district in London was amazingly vibrant and colorful to my eyes, and I’m not just talking about the gay flag. It was packed all over with local coffee shops, small stores and nice restaurants. But, Soho is not just famous for all of that, it is also because it has a great night life. When I asked some friends about some suggestions of where to go in London, three out of five told me about this jazz club. So, I went to the Late Night Show that started at midnight until 3am. The environment was great and the musicians on the stage were white British men in their 40s to 50s all of them except for a young guy who played the bass exceptionally. Later, the host announced that they had some special guests in the audience that would come up and jam with them later. They were a group of young guys most of them already tipsy, from different backgrounds. One of these young men was announced to go jam with the group HE was a young black man, about 20. As he walked towards the stage, one of his friends from the group of young guys yelled: Go Africa! Nobody laughed except for me, my husband and the band. Once on stage, the same heckler yelled: OH MY GAWD!! He looks like Denzel Washington!Doesn’t he? It was so funny, all the group of young men and us were laughing. He played the trumpet beautifully and added a whole new touch to the music. Towards the end of the night, the smart alec who was teasing his friend, got up on stage himself and was an incredible pianist, with fingers like fire! It was one of the best nights in London for me. I enjoyed this group of musicians playing songs of Mile Davis, Louis Armstrong and others from different background and range of ages.
Thanks Londoners ! You guys are hecka of cool!
